The "Niwaka" was a massive, highly anticipated annual event where the people of Yoshiwara put on elaborate costumes and performed impromptu street theater, comedy, and dances. Produced by the legendary Juzaburo Tsutaya, with stunning artwork by Ukiyo-e master Katsukawa Shunsho, this book captures the ecstatic, carnival-like atmosphere of 18th-century Edo.
