Hyakki no Zu | Yokai Handscroll Reproduction with Presentation Box
Product Description（英語）
Unroll a world of strange and captivating beings.

Curious figures stride forward, creatures dance with objects in hand, and mysterious forms emerge from swirling clouds of smoke. Sometimes unsettling, sometimes unexpectedly charming, the yokai of Hyakki no Zu invite you into a world of Japanese supernatural imagination.

This reproduction is based on images of Hyakki no Zu held in the collection of the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken). The image data has been digitally cleaned and adjusted to make indistinct areas easier to see, allowing you to enjoy the creatures’ expressions and intricate details in handscroll form.

Unlike a book, a handscroll reveals its scenes gradually as you unroll it. Pause to examine an individual figure, or take in the lively procession as it unfolds. Each viewing offers an opportunity to discover another detail at your own pace.

Quiet and understated when rolled, the scroll opens to reveal a richly imaginative world. It comes in a dedicated cream-toned presentation box featuring the Japanese title and motifs from the artwork. A distinctive addition to a collection of Japanese art, or a thoughtful gift for anyone fascinated by yokai and traditional visual culture.
